Beacon Hill was 4/34 in their first grade match against Wakehurst at St Matthews on Saturday, when the pair in the middle received the call – hurry up, rain is coming.

It was the only goading Ben Hastings and Aarka ‘Sunny’ Saha needed.

In a 42-ball frenzy the pair belted an unbeaten 64-run partnership to guide their team to six wicket bonus point win in the 12th over of the 35-over match.

Hastings smashed 36 off 27 balls including two sixes while Saha belted 29 off 20, also with two sixes.

On a cold, overcast day with occasional rain, the outfield was wet but quick.

The match was setup for Beacon Hill by a brilliant opening spell from Matt Morley who took 4/17 off 7 overs to leave Wakehurst reeling at 7/50.

Damandeep R Singh took 2/20 while 17-year-old debutant Matt Kuchel was impressive taking 1/15.

When third drop Pravin Vala was caught-and-bowled first ball, the Redbacks were cock-a-hoop.

And then, steadily, as Hastings and Saha went about their business, they were not.
