The Glebe Dirty Reds have stamped their mark on the Presidents Cup competition with a huge 53-16 win over Wentworthville, while also winning the 2020 NSWRL Challenge Cup.
The Wentworthville Magpies opened the scoring when Eli Levido spotted some space and threw a short pass to Eli Roberts who went through a hole to score four minutes into the contest.
Halfback Beau Henry converted to take the score to 6-nil but it wasn’t to remain for long as the Dirty Reds hit back through their winger Latrell Robinson.
A cut-out pass from Glebe five-eighth Sitiveni Moceidreke on the left-hand side of the field sent Robinson over in the corner and Addison Demetriou’s kick hit the upright and went through to lock the scores up at 6-all.
Off the back of multiples penalties and a drop-out, Glebe fullback Honeti Tuha used some fancy footwork through the middle and sent a pass off to his winger John Olive to score in the opposite corner to their first try.
During the try, Wenty’s Beau Henry was sent from the field for the remainder of the game for talking back to referee, so in a massive blow, Wenty were forced to play on with 12 men for the remainder of the match.

In the second quarter, big man Thomas Hazleton broke through the line and strode away, he held the ball up perfectly and passed to Tuha to score and the conversion was successful to take the scores to 16-6.
The Magpies were feeling the heat, the possession rate and the struggle of being one-man down when Patrice Siolo was on the end of a short pass and crashed over between the sticks and the conversion was successful to take the scores to 22-6.
An offload from Tuha and some Sione Afemui footwork drew defenders in and put Robinson away to score his second and Moceidreke converted to take scores to 28-6.
Just before the break, Wentworthville’s Henry Raiwalui put in a grubber kick deep in goal and Nicholas Walker ran onto it and scored to take the scores to 28-10 at halftime.

The Wolves kept a roll on in the second half, with a double to Liam Coleman and Tuha recorded a hat-trick all thanks to his silky footwork and dominance in attack.
Magpies winger Walker bagged a double in the corner and second-rower Kieran Hayman converted from the sideline and reduced the deficit to 52-16.
With seconds left on the clock, Moceidreke slotted a long-distance field goal to take the final score to 53-16.
The match also acted as the Final for the NSWRL’s Challenge Cup which was held earlier in the year and is a pre-season competition involving metropolitan and regional teams. Glebe not only recorded a Round Three win; they also claimed bragging rights for the 2020 Challenge Cup title.

The Glebe Dirty Reds were formed in 1908 and their last season in the NSWRL first grade competition was in 1929. They were re-established as a rugby league club in 2016 and their last competition victory was in the 1927 NSWRL third Grade premiership. Today’s NSWRL challenge Cup victory is in fact the Dirty Reds first silverware in 93 years.
Perhaps somewhere in another place, legendary personalities from out of rugby league’s history like the great Frank Burge and his three brothers, Chris McKivat, Alex Burdon, Bert Gray, Les Cubitt and many others will be toasting the achievements of the Dirty Reds of 2020.
