The test match at the Gabba isn’t the only place Tigers players are doing the club proud in representative cricket at the moment.
The National Over 50s Championships wrapped up today in Perth, and Redlands had a strong contingent in the Queensland team. Former Easts-Redlands first grade all-rounders Paul Stenhouse and Brian Brix were selected along with wicketkeeper Bruce Schmidt. Unfortunately Bruce suffered an injury playing for Redlands Tigers Over 40s only weeks before the tournament and was ruled out. Hamstrings work better when they are attached to the bone!
After performing strongly at previous championships, the Qld team had mixed results in 2019. Losses to ACT and Victoria were followed by a win over Tasmania, today the Queenslanders lost to NSW Waratahs in the playoff for 5th.
Stenny top scored in the game against ACT with 40 (batsmen retire at 40 with the opportunity to come back later) and took 2/33 with the ball which was enough to get Queensland’s player of the match. He then managed to finish with an average of 80 after only being dismissed once in the tournament. The man loves the red ink!
Brixy has contributed with scores in the teens in the first three games, before really hitting his straps today scoring 40 retired.
In the final played at the WACA today Victoria beat WA by 5 runs, an Australian team will be announced in the coming weeks.
These tigers may have a few greys in their stripes, but their passion is just as strong as ever. Great to see gents.
Tigers for life!
