16

Who’s your favourite all-time cricketer?

Toss-up between Matthew Hayden and Ryan Harris

Matthew Hayden

Who is the fastest bowler you’ve played against?

Brett Lee

Who is the best spinner you’ve played against?

Steven O’Keefe

Who played the best innings you’ve seen firsthand playing with or against? And if you could add a few words as to why

Blake MacDonald. Last year in a match against UNSW which looked to be fizzling out to a draw, ‘Buzz’ smashed 159 runs off 139 balls to see us home in the final over of the match. The innings demonstrated why he’s one of the best young batsman in Australia.

Good luck getting him to shout you a beer though.

Who are the two players in NSW Premier Cricket you’ve come to admire most in terms of skills and competitive spirit in the competitions you played?

Trent Copeland would be at the top of this list for me. He’s the ultimate competitor, always gives a 100% and can win you a game from any situation. He’s definitely the most skilful bowler I’ve ever come across.

Nick Stapleton is a close second. One of the most consistent first grade cricketers in NSW over the past 5 years with both bat and ball. He always leads from the front and is terrific example of the places you can get to with hard work and dedication. A highly skilled and competitive cricketer.

Which singer/band would you like to see perform live?

Catfish and the Bottlemen

Who’s the king of selfies at your club?

When Andrew Walsh isn’t bowling off the wrong foot, he loves to take a selfie.

Can you recall some banter or an exchange on the cricket field that still makes you laugh today?

In a match against Northern Districts, former first grade fast bowler Dave Williams, or ‘two-step’, as he Is known for his breakdancing prowess, pulled off one of the funniest moments I’ve witnessed on a cricket field. ND’s were 9 wickets down and needed 2 runs off the final 2 deliveries. Dave charged in and bowled a juicy full toss, the ball was smashed straight back and instinctively Dave threw out his hand. Somehow the ball to got stuck in between his index finger and tall finger. Once he realised what had happened he slowly raised his arm above his head with the ball still lodged in between his two fingers and cried out “two-step”.

An honourable mention must also go to Trent Copeland for successfully overturning a front foot no-ball decision off his bowling and telling umpires to “switch on” after a questionable call.

Who’s been the biggest influence on your career so far?

The biggest influence on my career would have to be my parents, they have been my greatest supporters from day one. Barry Davison who was my coach all throughout juniors was also a great mentor.

Where do you find inspiration that gets you through challenging times?

Everyone has tough times in cricket. For me I like to lean on my family, friends and team mates for support when I need it. Having interests outside of cricket which allow me to get away from the game is also important to get through challenging periods.

Who are the three people in the world you’d love to have a chat to in person?

Hamish Blake, LeBron James and Shane Warne.

LeBron James

What do you like to do to relax outside cricket?

I enjoy playing a round of golf with my mates, getting down to the beach for a swim, spending time with friends and family, watching a good movie or TV series and listening to the Hamish and Andy podcast.

What's your occupation?

I have recently completed a Bachelor of Business from UTS and I’m currently working as a marketing specialist at JPB Consultancy.

Do you have a favourite quote?

“That’s tea gentlemen” – Darren Goodger

Can we ask, what would it mean to you to be selected to play for NSW?

It would be an extremely proud and satisfying moment. Every young cricketer dreams of representing their state. Getting the opportunity to live out my childhood dream as a professional cricketer would be something I’d cherish.
