On Sunday 12 December Penrith Cricket Club host Western Suburbs Cricket Club in Round 5 of the Kingsgrove Sports Twenty 20 Cup at Howell Oval.

It is the last round before the semi-finals of the T20 Cup and in the Sydney Thunder Conference Western Suburbs sit in 4th position on 6.5 points and Penrith are in 6th position on 3.5 points.

It is a must-win game for the Panthers if they are to be a chance to play T20 semi-finals as Western Suburbs look to consolidate their position in the top 4.

Excitingly for both clubs, the match will be broadcast live through Kayo Sports so if you are unable to make it to Howell Oval you can still tune in live through Kayo Freebies.

As it’s a Sunday game with the Poidevin Gray playing the curtain-raiser a big crowd is expected at Howell Oval.

The big question is will the crowd be as big as the one day game played between the two clubs on 4th October 1987.

The Western Suburbs team on the day included Australian international Dirk Wellham, David Gilbert, Greg Matthews and NSW representatives Brad McNamara, Scott Hookey and Chris Killen.

Penrith team included NSW representatives Rod Bower and Trevor Bayliss and without an exact count, it is believed there was a crowd of 2000 in attendance.

Here’s the scorecard of the game along with the Bill O’Reilly point adjudicated by umpires Arthur Watson and G Parker.

The scorecards of the other games of the round on 4th October 1987 are also included.
