On the eve of today’s opening of the new Brisbane Cricket Centre I spoke to manager Nick Perrera about what the centre will bring to the Brisbane cricket community.

A former Souths fast bowler, Sri Lankan born Perrera expects the new 5 lane indoor facility situated in Archerfield at 16 Boniface Street to attract cricketers of all levels - both teams and individuals keen to experience their state of the art facilities where they have bowling machines, video instant playback analysis, spin rev counters and pace speed guns plus a team meeting room and viewing area upstairs.

With the current rainy conditions in Brisbane clubs such as Souths and Ipswich are already locked in to take advantage of the centre from this evening and management expects once word gets out that they will be busy taking bookings.

Upskill Cricket Academy are running the first “specialist skills” junior coaching sessions at the BCC from 6th of December which will include a fast bowling workshop with former Qld Bulls quick Luke Feldman.

Given it is decades since the old Gabba nets run by Sam Trimble and Brian Gaskell ceased business and the old Greg Chappell Cricket Centre building in Albion closed to become purely retail this new Brisbane Cricket Centre should be an exciting addition to the landscape of South East Qld cricket.
