Junior cricket is where it all begins and I'm seeing and coaching so many outstanding young boys and girls in India and Australia

Over the past twenty years if I had a “highlight reel” it would definitely contain footage of the junior cricket tours and tournaments that I’ve held throughout India in conjunction with the Lal family, Kunal and Madan Lal.

In two weeks’ time the Adams Cricket Academy in partnership with Matchcraft Management and Kunal and Madan Lal are taking an Australian under 16 team to India to compete in the Australia India Youth Cup where they’ll compete against some very strong opposition.

The selected cricketers in the Adams Cricket Academy team come from Canberra, (captain Lukas Boorer), Melbourne including co vice-captain Alex Turner, Queensland and Sydney with co vice-captain James Hatton from Darwin , Northern Territory.

It’s always a big challenge for young Australian cricketers (any Australian team) to tour and play in India, particularly on a maiden voyage.

The challenge will be for the Australian boys to overcome a new environment, different pitches and also playing together for the first time as a team.

For the first time ever on tour I won’t be coaching the team as I’ve decided to act as a mentor for all of the boys competing in every team.

However this presents an excellent opportunity for myself and Kunal Lal to be mentor to a young and outstanding, upcoming coach from Melbourne in Steve McConchie.

Steve’s assistant coach is another outstanding young man in Luke Manders and dare I say it but Luke is an absolute gun with the stick playing for Casey South Melbourne in the Victorian Premier League.

So if all my friends and foes could join me in wishing the boys and coaches a great and successful tour, I’ll promise to provide some results and tournament photos from September 15 onwards.

I hope that my many friends in Delhi can come to Siri Fort stadium on the afternoon of 16 September or the morning and afternoon of 17 September to watch the Adams Cricket Academy boys compete in the early tournament T20’s.

If all goes to plan the academy team will play in the T20 final on 18 September at the 35,000 seat Noida stadium.
