Five NSW rising stars have been selected in a 15-player squad to represent Australia in the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in the West Indies.

Aidan Cahill, Corey Miller, Jack Nisbet, Will Salzmann and Lachlan Shaw will all head to the Caribbean for the tournament that runs from January 14 – February 5.

The quintet will be joined on the plane by CNSW Head Coach Transition Squad - NSW Blues, Anthony Clark, who is the team’s head coach.

Fellow NSW Pathways players Liam Doddrell and Joel Davies have been named as non-travelling reserves.

The squad was finalised following trial matches at a training camp in Adelaide last week.

Australia have been drawn in Group D with West Indies, Sri Lanka and Scotland. Their first match is the tournament opener against the hosts in Guyana on January 14.

The squad will assemble for a training camp in Melbourne from December 28 before departing to the West Indies.

Clark said the squad had a great depth and skill.

“Our squad includes players of all disciplines with experience in domestic cricket environments, and many have produced eye-catching performances across a variety of strong competitions this season,” Clark said.

“The Under-19 World Cup provides players with an exceptional development opportunity and we look forward to seeing them represent their country with distinction.”

Clark also gave a synopsis of the NSW’s brightest teenage talent:

Aidan Cahill (Newcastle & Northern District) – big, strong fast bowling all-rounder from Newcastle. He bowls a heavy ball and is a clean striker with the bat.

Corey Miller (Northern District) – level headed left hand opening batsman who is technically very sound versus both spin and fast bowling. He’s been a regular run maker throughout our pathway system.

Jack Nisbet (Sydney) – tall right arm fast bowler who creates good bounce and accuracy. He’s already been very successful in first grade in Sydney. He’s got a big future and has a NSW Blues Rookie contract.

Will Salzmann (Campbelltown-Camden) – right arm skiddy-fast bowler who is a handy middle order bat. He’s had some strong performances in first grade and has worked very hard to earn this spot.

Lachlan Shaw (Northern District) - right handed wicketkeeper batter. He’s very dynamic with the bat and gifted behind the stumps. Similar player to Brad Haddin and that’s a wrap.
