The Cricket Australia (CA) Youth Selection Panel have named a 15-player Australian squad for the upcoming multi-format Under 19 series against England, featuring six New South Wales representatives.
The squad was announced following the conclusion of the 2022-23 Under 19 Male National Championships in Adelaide, with all six NSW inclusions coming from the title-winning Metropolitan team.
Charlie Anderson, Joel Davies, Ethan Jamieson, Will Salzmann, Harjas Singh and Tom Straker will travel with the squad to Brisbane, where the series against England will commence on January 29.
This caps off an incredible week for NSW Metropolitan skipper Joel Davies, who, along with winning the U19 Australian National Championships title, was named Player of the Tournament. Davies amassed 458 runs at an average of 114.5 across six matches (tournament leading run scorer), including two centuries, to go with his eight wickets.
Jamieson and Singh also impressed with the willow, striking 270 runs and 343 runs, respectively. Jamieson began the tournament in dominant fashion, compiling innings of 88 and 152 as opener, whilst Singh, who comes in at three, produced consistent performances including two crucial centuries in the later stages.
Straker and Anderson opened the Metropolitan pace attack. The pair were at times unplayable, collecting a combined 13 tournament wickets at an alarmingly low average against domestic youth batting talent.
Salzmann, who earlier in the year donned the green and gold at the ICC U19 World Cup, will again get the chance to represent his nation. Generally known for his wicket-taking ability, Salzmann was one of NSW Metropolitan’s clutch performers with the bat, crunching 181 runs at an average of 90.50 and a strike rate of 146.0, including a match-winning 32* against QLD Metropolitan in the final.

Australia Male Under 19 Head Coach Anthony Clark said:
“It was exciting to see the quality of cricket on display at the National Championships and we look forward to seeing our players test their skills at a higher level.
“Providing our best young players with international opportunities is an essential part of the pathways program.
“The upcoming multi-format international series will provide our players with an exceptional development opportunity, particularly in longer form cricket.
"It was a difficult task to narrow our squad down to 15, but we will continue to support and monitor the development of all players in our pathways programs as we build towards the tour of England in the winter and the 2024 Under 19 World Cup in Sri Lanka.”
