Inclement weather may have stopped a few matches over the weekend but our statisticians were still given enough cricket to extract the following:

First ball – Video game numbers! The Penrith U18 Brewer Shield side enjoyed a convincing win over Universities on Sunday after Gunisha Garg picked up 5 wickets for only one run. Shree Swarup was almost as economical, finishing with 3-3. Penrith chased down the target of 27 within 15 balls.

Second ball – The Dolphins dance! Despite losing the toss and being sent in to bat first by Fairfield-Liverpool, Eastern Suburbs amassed a mammoth 3/335. A stunning 146 by Angus Robson set the tone for his team's innings. Easts’ bowler Sam Skelly did just as much damage with the ball, finishing with 6/37 and restricting the Fairfield-Liverpool Lions to a first innings total of 68. Skelly collected another three wickets as Easts enforced the follow-on. However, the Lions were more defiant in their second innings, surviving until the end of the day’s play.

Third ball – Never in doubt! Sydney Cricket Club’s 2nd Grade women’s side managed to defend their total of 61 by bowling Universities out for 59. The last two batters were dismissed with only two runs required.

Fourth ball – The ultimate partnership! Eastern Suburbs 3rd Grade were languishing at 6/20 and thinking about warming up to bowl when Ryan O'Beirne and Mark Morley joined forces. O’Beirne (71) and Morley (161) turned the tide with their 221-run partnership. Morley plundered his 161 from 101 deliveries, smoking 6 sixes and 23 fours. The pair delivered with the ball as well with O’Beirne capturing 6-14 and Morley 2-21. The pair were praised for engineering an amazing fightback - and victory.

Fifth ball – Captain Cummins leads the way! Sydney University 1st Grade captain, Tim Cummins, led the ‘Students’ to a crucial win over Bankstown hitting 100* from 120 deliveries in an innings that included six massive sixes. Cummins then took 5 catches from behind the stumps to seal the victory.

Sixth ball – Advantage Avendano! Justin Avendano hit yet another century (127 off 135) – his fourth of the season for UTS North Sydney! His efforts were enough to earn UTS a draw against Sutherland District.

Second over

First ball – Seven the magic number! Western Suburbs paceman Mohammed Irfan Jr finished with figures 7-82 as his side claimed victory over Blacktown. In three matches this season, Irfan Jr has captured 15 wickets, which includes two five-wicket hauls. Over at Owen Earle Oval, Hawkesbury’s Luke Courtney finished with 7-68 against Parramatta. Hawkesbury, however, could not secure the win.

Second ball – On top for a reason! Parramatta Brewer Shield representative Lucy Wilson added to her wicket tally for the season after taking 5-9 against Sydney. Wilson sits alone atop the leading wicket takers ladder for the Brewer Shield competition with 15 wickets.

Third ball – Slayers slay Gordon! St George-Sutherland Slayers 1st Grade side piled on the runs against Gordon with openers Joanne Kelly and Rhiannon Dick both passing fifty. Gordon couldn't match the Slayers after a terrific spell of bowling by Mel Norup (5-15) ensured her team finished 56 runs ahead.

Fourth ball – Make that 20 in a row! Sydney University’s Devlin Malone has still taken at least one wicket in every match he’s played in this season.

Fifth ball – Rain, rain go away! Manly-Warringah 2nd grader Jacob O’Sullivan was seeing them very well against Gordon, racing to 93* off 75 balls, until heavy rain forced the game to be abandoned.

Sixth ball – The winner is Syd-en-ee! Sydney Cricket Club claimed the Ann Mitchell Cup after defeating Universities Women’s Cricket Club! Kira Churchland performed well with the ball, holding Universities to 161. Naomi McDonald (81*) and Lillian Dummett (51*) finished the job with the bat, chasing down the total with 6 overs to spare.
