The AW Green Shield Grand Final was played between Eastern Suburbs and St George at Waverley Oval on Thursday 23 January 2020.
Eastern Suburbs went into the grand final having won all their 9 games and St George had only lost one game.
St George won the toss and batted and lost opener Alexander Parthenis early for 6 when the score was 14.
Sam Konstass and St George’s Captain Ethan Jamieson then added 48 for the 2nd wicket before Jamieson was out for 24.
Adam Singleton joined Konstas at the crease and together they moved the score along to 145 before Matt Sidhu picked up his 2nd wicket and Singleton was out for 31.
Konstas top-scored for a well compiled 71 which included 7 boundaries before he fell to left-arm spinner Ned Patterson with the score on 162.
Billy Arena scored 21 as St George lost wickets regularly in search of quick runs and finished 9 for 220 after their 50 overs.
For Eastern Suburbs Angus Hayman took 3 for 32 off his 10 overs, Ned Patterson 2 for 48 off 10, Matt Sidhu 2 for 52 off 10 and Ollie Patterson 1 for 31 off 6 overs.
In reply, Eastern Suburbs found trouble early losing both openers Asher Learmonth (1) and Jonah Trope (6) with only 14 runs on the board.
Hamish Morrison was joined by Eastern Suburbs captain Tom Coady and they steadied the ship before Morrison was out for 25 and the Dolphins were 3 for 67.
Coady and Koda Sissian then combined for a tremendous 126 run partnership before Coady was out for 77 – 4 fours and 1 six.
Sissian remained 77 not out (4 fours and 2 sixes) to steer Eastern Suburbs to a 5 wicket victory after 47.1 overs.
Sissian was also named man of the match picking up the prestigious Ken Cunningham medal – congratulations Koda.
Arash Basnet was the pick of the bowlers for St George picking up 3 for 34 off 10 overs.
A fantastic win and effort by Eastern Suburbs to win every game of the AW Green Shield season as they lifted the trophy for the first time since 1976/77.
Congratulations to both Eastern Suburbs and St George for a wonderful and competitive Grand Final played in the spirit to make both clubs proud.
