After having both grades make the 'big dance' last year in the Manning District Comp, the Great Lakes Dolphins are keen to ride another wave of even more success in the coming season.
With many players taking part in off season comps at the local Stingers Sports Indoor Arena, the club is pleased to have a number of players ready to rip in from day one. Two players, Adam Lewis and Rhett Macgregor, represented NSW 21s at the Australian Indoor Championships, whilst three others, Damien Bestwick, Landon Blissett and Lachie Monks toured England and had magnificent experiences. They, along with others can be nothing but excited for what the season ahead may bring.
The Ashes Battle in the Old Dart has given the game a real lift and the club is hoping more players will come along to have a go with the local side. In addition to the excellent GL Junior Club working to promote the game, the "Seniors' club is trying to build its base with the hope of local sponsorship buying in to access the online profile and local club brand that is being developed. With many local juniors coming through the ranks and working hard with their junior club and rep team mates, Great Lakes Cricket is looking positively to a bright future.
Country cricket everywhere should be building on the excitement of what our Aussies are doing (and hopefully finish off this week!), especially with country kids seeing one of their own in Josh Hazlewood owning the world stage. What an inspiration to all young up and comers in the bush.
As well, both clubs are working with NSW Cricket throughout the year to develop the plans for combining into one all encompassing club, which will give added community focus for interested cricketers of all ages - the young to Veterans, male and female.
With training starting for anyone available this week and a Vets game on the home turf at Tuncurry's South St Oval this weekend, it's straight into the drink for Dolphins young and old. Anyone interested in joining the club can check us out or message on the Facebook at GREAT LAKES Cricket CLUB. The Dolphins wish all Manning clubs the best for the season.
