Lindfield Cummins won the toss and sent top of the table Gordon Gold into bat on a cool cloudy day at Koola Park. Lindfield’s aim was to restrict a strong Gordon batting line up to less than 120 and chase them down with some big hitting and aggressive running between the wickets.

The Gordon openers had other ideas, blazing an outstanding opening stand of 40 at more than a run a ball with skill and power hitting. Lindfield kept fighting and with some tight bowling throughout held the total to 5-115. Notable performances by wicket takers Ojas Kalikar (2 for 11) and Tom Webster (2 for 3) and a vast improvement in full straight bowling by Cam Barnett kept Lindfield in the game.

Tight Bowling by Cam Barnett restricts Gordon gold to 1-115

Most memorable was the commitment of wicketkeeper Aarav Mallya who is now nicknamed ‘the wall’ after repeatedly taking hits to the body to stop any byes. A courageous effort Aarav!

Wicket Keeper Aarav Mallya gloves another one behind the stumps.

Lindfield started slow with a few early wickets but the run-rate worm (monitored regularly by manager Scott Barnett) was back on target at the ten over mark due to smart batting by Ollie Meares ( 20n/o) and Tom Webster (25n/o) keeping the run chase on target.  Some late order hitting by Cam Barnett, Ojas Kalikar and opener Harry Meares returning to the crease was not quite enough with Lindfield 4-91 being 24 runs short of their target.

Congratulations to Gordon Gold who had some great young batters, fielders and bowlers.
