The 2014-15 NSW Country Championships was a great year for the Western Zone NSW Country team as they defeated Newcastle in the final at Wade Park in Orange 22 February 2015.
Pat Rosser was Western Zone captain for the McDonalds Country Championships when they won the Southern NSW Pool at Griffith by winning all 3 games against Riverina, ACT Southern NSW and Illawarra. Pat was unfortunately unavailable for the final against Newcastle as he had just moved up North to Kingscliff to start his new career.
The final was a high scoring game although Western Zone kept Newcastle quiet early with tim Cox bowling his 10 overs straight for remarkable figures of 10 Overs, 6 Maidens, 1 Wickets for 5 runs.
Newcastle captain Mark Littlewood batted 4 and scored and Joseph Price batting 5 and smashed a brilliant 131. With some late hitting from Josh Trappel 30, Newcastle managed to score 274 for loss of 6 wickets.
For Western Zone Curtis Free took 3 wickets, Ben Patterson 2 wickets and Tim Cox 1 wicket.
Westerns Zone run chase began with a remarkable opening partnership between Jordan Moran and Anthony Heraghty who put on 190 for the first wicket.
It was a memorable similar partnership to the Western Zone v Newcastle at Newcastle No 1 Sportsground 14 years earlier in 2001 when Jason Green scored a big 100 and Nick Berry scored 98 to win Western Zone first ever state title.
In 2015 Jordan Moran 105 not out Anthony Heraghty 98 set up Western Zone victory as they scored 4 for 275 off 43 overs. Michael Curtale made a valuable contribution of 43.
It was Western Zone 2nd title in the McDonalds NSW Country Championships.
