The following team was selected from players I have worked with professionally at Sri Lanka (Strength & Conditioner), Royal Bengal Tigers (Indian Cricket League, Strength & Conditioner/Assistant Coach), Sydney Thunder (Head Coach), Naganehira Nagas (Sri Lankan Premier League, Head Coach)
1. David Warner - Sydney Thunder
Made a century at the MCG to win the very first game of the BBL played by Sydney Thunder. An unbelievable innings
2. Chris Gayle - Sydney Thunder
Chris was bought at a big price to be the opening partner of David Warner which not only would have brought huge crowds, but a match winning combination. Unfortunately, David was selected for Australia and we saw him for only 1 match. Chris made an equally outstanding match winning century to David’s in the team’s 2nd game of BBL 1. Unfortunately, that was the last Thunder victory in BBL 1 and 2
3. Usman Khawaja - Sydney Thunder
Usman was an original signing of Sydney Thunder and 9 years later he still remains a Thunder player which is a great credit to him. He was underrated as a limited over and T20 player in the early days but always performed well and continues to today
4. Kumar Sangakarra - Sri Lanka (Wicket Keeper)
An incredible talent that achieved what he did in the game due to his thorough preparation and work ethic. I felt he became the best wicket keeper in the game before having to give it up in test cricket to enable him to be the best batsman he could be. His record says he achieved that and must be included as one of the greats of the game
5. Mahela Jayawardene - Sri Lanka (Captain)
Mahela is a quality human being and was all class with the bat and in the field. Outstanding knowledge of the game, ultra-competitive and a great leader. He is the Captain of this team
6. Craig McMillan - Royal Bengal Tigers, ICL
Craig was our Captain and understood the game inside out. An amazing talent with the bat, he also had a beautiful pair of hands in the field and a rocket arm. He led the team to the semi-finals on two occasions
7. Angelo Matthews - Nagenahira Nagas, SLP
Angelo was our Captain and led the team to the final which we lost in a game reduced to 5 overs. His innings in the final was exceptional and should have been match winning.
8. Chaminda Vaas - SrI Lanka
A highly skilled and durable bowler, taking wickets in the flattest of conditions. He also made some outstanding contributions with the bat averaging close to 25 in test cricket.
9. Andre Adams - Royal Bengal Tigers
Andre was a key player in what was a successful few editions of the ICL for our team. Good pace, great skill and a great cricket brain
10. Lasith Malinga - Sri Lanka
Malinga made his test debut in my time at SL. He was unleashed against Australia in the top end series at Darwin and Cairns and made his presence felt immediately
11. Muttiah Muralitharan - Sri Lanka
Murali was an absolute perfectionist. He bowled an extraordinary amount of overs in test match cricket and was able to due to his amazing work ethic and practice. He was courageous, resilient and the life of the team
12. Thilan Samaraweera - Sri Lanka
An underrated player with a top class test record. He turned himself into an outstanding batsman through sheer hard work and determination. He was nearly impossible to dismiss, particularly in Sri Lanka conditions.
