We are sad to report the passing of Don Harkness - St George First Grade Player No.195
As a quality left arm medium pace bowler and a very useful batsman Donald Peter Harkness made his first grade debut for Gordon aged just 18. After a number of successful seasons with Gordon, Don then transferred to St George in 1959-60 where he played mainly 2nd grade but was able to break into the successful first grade line up on a number of occasions scoring 139 runs and taking 14 wickets. In 2nd grade he scored 1092 runs a took 70 wickets.
In 1964-65 Don transferred to the newly formed Sutherland DCC and became an inaugural member of their First Grade team under the captaincy of Norm O'Neill.
In 1954 Don also ventured to England where he eventually broke into the Worcestershire County team and played 13 First Class games scoring 488 runs with a top score of 163 against Cambridge University and also claiming 6 wickets.
In all he scored 1612 runs and claimed 168 wickets in First Grade with Gordon, St George and Sutherland.

Foundation Member of Sutherland District Cricket Club. Much Loved Husband of Eleanor (dec) affectionately known as the 'Afternoon Tea Lady'. Father of Joanne and Susan. Grandfather of Rachel, Nathaniel, Mitchell and Karla. Privately Cremated.
