My father Michael played, so as far back as I can remember.

Started playing in the Kotara Bears (Newcastle) Under 11’s & 12’s, then onto St.Joseph’s College, Hunters Hill and the 1st XI, before returning to Newcastle to go to University, playing 1st XI with Charlestown District Cricket Club in the Newcastle competition.
Spent a northern summer as a ‘semi-professional’ for Solihull Cricket Club, in Birmingham, England before returning to Australia (Sydney). A season in the lower grades at Sydney University before calling it quits to focus on career.
As an all-rounder I was reasonably proficient at all elements of the game, whilst being a lesser cricketer than the sum of all my parts!

I remember 2 very similar innings and scores. 130 plus not out for Charlestown against Hamilton -Wickham 1991/92 - my first century in 1st grade with my Dad (ex-Shield cricketer Michael Hill) watching. A semi-final win for Charlestown against Belmont, our local derby, in the Newcastle Competition in the early 90’s. It’s hard to convince kids today, but there’s nothing better than winning a close, hard-fought game when you’re in the field.
