Sydney’s first Multicultural Cricket Challenge begins Dec 27. The Cup celebrates cricket community’s diversity, offers opportunity to play at SCG

 

What is it?

The Multicultural Cricket Challenge is a new three-day competition bringing together cricketers to celebrate the sport and the diverse communities that love and contribute to it.

More than 30 men’s and women’s teams will take part in this fun and friendly event, with players coming from a wide range of backgrounds including Indian, Sri Lankan, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Australian, English and New Zealander.

On December 27 and 28, the players will compete to determine the top teams, who will then play off for the Multicultural Cricket Challenge Cup in a spectacular Finals Day on December 29.

In the ultimate celebration of cricket, Challenge participants have the chance of being selected in All-Star Invitational Teams that will go on to play at the hallowed Sydney Cricket Ground in January.

 

Where and when is it?

December 27 and 28: Games will be played at fields in Blacktown from 9am – 6pm each day. The fields include Lynwood Park, Morgan Power Reserve, Allen Robertson Reserve, Pearce Reserve, Ashley Brown Reserve, Golden Grove Park and Cavanagh Reserve.

December 29: Finals Day will be held at Drummoyne Oval, otherwise known as “SCG No. 2”.

Players from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds competing in modified 20-over games for the Multicultural Cricket Challenge Cup and the chance to be selected to play at the SCG.

SCG Cricket Chairman Neil Maxwell, a well-known identity on the international cricket scene who represented NSW and Victoria in the 1990s. Neil is currently Chairman of the prestigious Sydney Cricket Club and SCG Cricket. He is also on the Board of Cricket NSW, was previously a Board Member of the Australian Cricketers’ Association and has held management positions at New Zealand Cricket, Cricket NSW and the Melbourne Cricket Club.
