Welcome Des,

Firstly, what year were you born?

September 1962

Can you remember you first game of cricket?

Playing for Highfields State primary school, can’t remember the game so no idea of my contribution

Tell us briefly about your cricketing journey? Where you’ve played, clubs you’ve played for?

Apart from school I didn’t play much junior cricket. I started playing for Western District Cricket club in 1985/86 and haven’t missed a season since. I still play for Western District but I played a bit in Central Downs for Mt. Tyson and Pittsworth.

I also play Over 50s Veterans for The Toowoomba Grey Cavaliers and have bene the skipper for the past 2 seasons.

What other sports do you play?

None, I’m a cricket nut

Who is your favourite sports movie or documentary?

Bodyline

What’s the one thing about you most people don’t know about?

I'm really a very shy person.

What’s your highest score in senior cricket?

114 v Wests Wizards C grade 2005/06.

What has been your best bowling figures in senior cricket?

14 overs, 6 maidens, 7 wickets, 30 runs - Wests Warriors Colts v Wests Wizards Colts 2001/02, always play my best against my own club mates. Lol.

Can you tell us which players in the club we should be looking out for in terms of higher representative honours?

Several young blokes coming through the grades. I’ll say Mat Spanner with the bat and Key Hess with the ball.

Who has been the fastest bowler you have played against so far?

Been a few, Wests Jimmy Donahue and Nick Talbot were quick and Greg Hilder was the best I faced.

Who has been the best spinner you have played against so far?

Ashar Iman - left arm leggie who could really turn them

Who has been your funniest team mate?

So many but Adam Ottobrino has a dry wit about him.

Who was your childhood hero?

Allan Border

Who are the three sports people in the world you’d most like to meet?

Alan Border (met), Steve Waugh, Sachin Tendulkar.

Who’s your favourite cricket commentator?

Ian Healy

Who are the two local players you admire most in terms of skills and competitive spirit?

Brian May and Paul Toohey

What do you enjoy most about playing cricket?

I love the game but get a real kick out of helping the younger players become better

What has been your most memorable moment in cricket?

Western Districts winning our 1st A grade premiership, that tops everything.

What’s the best win you’ve been involved with?

There’s been a few but probably the 1991/92 C grade grand final and 1992/93 B grade grand final as Captain.

What are your hobbies?

Cricket and a bit of gardening

What’s the best advice you’ve received?

Keep your head still, eyes on the ball. Bill Toshach was great in my early days when I became a captain.

What are your cricketing ambitions?

To keep playing for as long as I can. I still haven't given up hope of playing for QLD, maybe in the Over 60s in a couple of years, Lol.
